Symptoms & health advice for owners

Dogs, cats, birds, rodents and horses — what to do at home, what you may give, and when to call a vet urgently.

Important: This guide does not replace a veterinarian. Pain, bleeding, seizures, breathing difficulty, or refusal to eat in young animals — go to a clinic immediately.

🐕 Dog

Vomiting / diarrhea

Do: withhold food 12–24 h, small amounts of water, watch dehydration.

May give: dog probiotic, bland chicken + rice (after vet OK).

ER: blood in vomit/stool, puppy < 4 months, bloating.

Not eating / drinking

Do: check temperature (~38–39°C), count hours without food.

Never: ibuprofen or human painkillers (toxic).

ER: 24+ hours without eating.

Poisoning (chocolate, grapes)

Do: call clinic with amount eaten; keep packaging.

Do not induce vomiting unless vet says so.

🐈 Cat

Not urinating (male cat)

ER immediately — urethral blockage is life-threatening.

Signs: straining in litter, crying, blood.

Vomiting

Hairballs: brushing + hairball paste. Frequent vomiting or yellow bile → vet.

Breathing difficulty

ER now. Cats hide illness; open air, minimal stress.

🦜 Bird · 🐹 Rodent · 🐴 Horse

Birds and rodents decline very fast — same-day avian/exotic vet. Fluffed feathers or wet tail = urgent. Horse colic (rolling, pawing) — call equine vet immediately, withhold feed.
